Today we speak with Katherine Canelo, a student of the Master in Content Management and Social Media Strategist, who tells us why she chose to study at IM and how she is successfully applying the knowledge she is acquiring in the Master in her businesses.
First of all, we want to know how your experience with the Master in IM is going.
My classes started in January. I came from Peru. I am Peruvian, I am a lawyer, and at first I was afraid because I didn't know if the master's degree would be suitable for my profession, since I didn't study Marketing as a degree at university.
So, I was really motivated by the fact that the Master's course covers a lot of social media management, which I am currently applying in my business because I sell my wordpress web design agency services through social media such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. And, through that medium, many clients have come to me.
The Master has helped me strengthen the management of each platform because, although it is true that I subcontract this service with agencies, now I know the step-by-step instructions for how they manage the advertising of my particular business and I am not lost in the matter, it gives me much more security.
It also helps me grow as a professional in my personal brand, specifically in the real estate sector, because that is what I do.
Tell me what you do, what your service is, what your added value is as a professional.
I am a lawyer, specializing in real estate law. My audience comes from Peru, but I am not limited by the fact that I am in another part of the world to launch advertising through social networks and, by giving online webinars and launching advertising through Meta, these prospects, these future clients, come to me through WhatsApp groups, which I was also taught about WhatsApp Business in the Master's degree.
This is a virtual training in which I provide valuable content and at the end of the webinar I make a sales pitch and invite them to participate in a more specialized course on real estate regularization, which is the regularization of properties: putting the papers of a flat, a house, a piece of land or a commercial premises in order. This is what my business is about in general terms.
In the area of advertising, personal branding and platform management , I have successfully applied it to my business. I see it as an investment in my personal case because I get a return on it with the fees my clients give me.
I highly recommend it, since the information you provide is completely up-to-date on the topic of platform management and how to reach customers, since, in one of the Master's topics, we have learned how to deal with dissatisfied customers and deal with the challenge of reaching conversion in the sense that this customer then leaves happy with the service you have provided.
This has also helped me a lot in managing emotions with clients, personal branding and content.
How is the experience with the teachers?
It's great because they are very friendly. I am from another country and, being from another culture, it may be a challenge because there are some words that were a bit unknown to me, but everything has been quite friendly with respect to the explanations of each teacher.
How do you see yourself in, say, 2 or 3 years, after you have finished the Master's?
I see myself with a more consolidated business and managing a lot of automation, because it will help me save time, money, and have a greater number of clients with my services that have had successful results.
So, if I manage to achieve that, I will also have more time available and it will give me the opportunity to create more value for my audience, and to improve my services little by little.
How much time do you have left to finish the Master's?
I'll finish it in November. I'm looking forward to the YouTube module because in a very intuitive way and with the help of a friend who has been making videos on the YouTube platform for years, he taught me how to create the channel and, today, I monetize my channel.
My idea with my business is to generate various sources of income, because if you generate various sources of income in your business, if one source goes down, the others will bear it and you can never be left with zero.
And the wonderful thing that has happened to me with the subject of advertising is that many people ask me: “Katy, but if you are self-employed, how do you deal with clients? Because at some point they run out.”
With advertising they will never run out.
Well, here you have someone who applies Marketing to its fullest potential.
When I give that answer, it's like, how come? Now, with the ease of social media, everyone has a mobile phone where they're viewing content. If you offer valuable content with which you're giving a specific solution to the person who needs just that, you're going to grow.
Returning to the content of the Master's, which subjects did you like the most or were the most useful to you?
The topic of Social Ads is the one I liked the most and the one that left its mark on me.
